How does the site work?


This specially developed internet program teaches students English through a number of content topics. The main sections and sub-topics are:

The beauty of the site is that language learning takes place on Everyday English, Business English, English for the Workplace, Academic English, Job Search and other topics of complete relevance to students.

 

Every two weeks (every fortnight) members are provided with new articles, employment issues, ten new quizzes, a joke, a phrase, a quote, a listening exercise and more. The site is both an academic support and a peer support site. The site replicates a real teacher and provides language learning activities that aim to develop your understanding of the culture of English, finding work, business, study and work. It also develops your vocabulary.

 

Being available through the internet, and so very accessible, is its most distinct difference from a real teacher. The site gives the members an opportunity to discuss their language and cultural difficulties and strategies for overcoming obstacles one-to-one with the online teacher.

YourEnglishOnline supplies English language training materials to students in all countries of the world that have internet access. The quizzes are easy to use, give instant feedback, are fun and there are new quizzes put up every week. The site aims to be focused on assisting students to learn English but also concentrate on business, workplaces, the trades, study and culture.

 

How to use the site?


Students pay online with a credit card or send the money as a bank cheque to Blaise Consulting Services Ltd, PO Box 44290. Pt Chevalier, Auckland, New Zealand. Once they have joined as a member students need to complete the new quizzes that are put up every week, read the new articles, listen to the new audio file and read the jokes, quotes, slang and phrases.

How many quizzes should I do every day?


Do five quizzes every day. From Monday to Friday complete 50 quizzes in total.

2. My score and IELTS

 

How much will my IELTS band score improve if I study on this site?


If you study on the site for two hours per day and five days a week for 12 months,
your English will improve at least 1.5 bands on the IELTS test:
e.g. from IELTS 4 – 5.5 or IELTS 5 – 6.5 or IELTS 5.5 - 7.

 

If you study on the site for one hour per day and five days a week for 12 months,
your English will improve at least one band on the IELTS test:
e.g. from IELTS 4 – 5 or IELTS 5 – 6 or IELTS 6 - 7.

 

What do the marks from the online placement test mean?


 

An elementary level of English (1 to 30 marks in the online placement test)


You know up to 200 English words and their meanings. Your English grammar is very weak. You understand very little of an English newspaper and find it very hard to read and understand a short academic article. You need a bilingual dictionary to find the meaning of most words.

 

An Intermediate level of English (31 to 60 marks in the online placement test)


You know up to 3,000 English words and their meanings. This is enough to read and understand 90% of an English newspaper. You English grammar is OK but not strong. You can understand up to 80% of a short academic article easily. You do not require a bilingual dictionary but can use an English -English dictionary.

 

An Advanced level of English (51 to 80 marks in the online placement test)


You know up to 5,000 English words and their meanings. This is enough to read and understand 95% of an English newspaper. You English grammar is quite strong. You can understand up to 90 - 95% of a short article easily. Mostly you use an English - English dictionary to find the meanings of words.

 

A Super-Advanced level of English (81 to 100 marks in the online placement test)


You know more than 10,000 English words and their meanings. This is enough to read and understand 98 - 100% of an English newspaper. Your English grammar is very strong. You can understand up to 98 - 100% of a short academic article easily. You always use an English - English dictionary to find the meanings of words.

 

How can I improve my English based on my score from the placement test?

 

1 to 30 marks = An elementary level of English

 

Study on the http://www.yourenglishonline.com/ site at Level One for two hours per day. Study 10 – 15 new vocabulary words every day. Write them in a notebook with the translation into your own language. Read simple articles in newspapers. Look up the new words in a bilingual dictionary. Buy a grammar book and work through it from the beginning. Watch and listen to children’s programmes on the television. Buy some children’s easy reading books with pictures. Talk in simple sentences to English speaking people. After a while talk in joined sentences to English speaking people. Ask English speaking people questions about their family, life and job.

 

31 to 60 marks = An Intermediate level of English

 

Study on the http://www.yourenglishonline.com/ site at Level Two for two hours per day. Study 20 - 30 new vocabulary words every day. Write them in a notebook with the meaning in English. Read short articles in newspapers and write a summary of them. Look up the new words in an English – English dictionary. Buy a grammar book and study the sections that you still need to learn. Watch and listen to programmes on the television that you enjoy but also listen to the news and documentaries. Buy some short novels such as children’s novels and read them. Buy one magazine a week that you like and read it. Buy some adult long novels and read them. Talk with many joined sentences to English speaking people. Ask English speaking questions about their family, life, job, hopes for the future, geography of the world and politics.

 

60 to 80 marks = An Advanced level of English

 

Study on the http://www.yourenglishonline.com/ site at Level Three star for one hour per day. Study 30 new vocabulary words every day. Write them in a notebook with the meaning in English. Read long articles in newspapers and write a summary of them. Also read letters to the editor, political commentaries, opinions and other sections that you enjoy. Look up the new words in an English – English dictionary. Buy a grammar book and study the sections that you still need to learn. Watch and listen to programmes on the television that you enjoy but also listen to the news and documentaries. Buy some adult long novels and read them. Buy one magazine a week that you like and read it. Talk fluently to English speaking people. Ask English speaking questions about their family, life, job, hopes for the future, geography of the world, religion, law, politics and any and every topic.
